Are You Investing in the Right Vintage Pieces?

We all know fashion trends tend to circle back every couple of years and 2021 was no exception. It was the year we saw trends from the early 2000’s come back which in turn gave us a heart-warming sense of nostalgia. It appears as if the younger generations have taken inspiration from fashion trends that were popular in the early 2000s and adapted them into their modern styles.  As we begin a new year, we’ll take a look at jewellery from past eras that fashion experts expect to make a comeback in 2022.

Chunky Chains

In 2020 chain jewellery was one of the most sought out pieces of jewellery and it looks like the trend is continuing into 2022. Although the eye-catching trend has been popular for some time now, it was in the spring/summer 2022 runway which saw designers such as Saint Laurent, Brandon Maxwell among others showcasing chunky chains. The trend was displayed in several unique styles from a minimalist approach to an extravagant style. The beauty of this trend is the many ways one could incorporate this trend such as a belt, body chains, braceletsnecklaces, and many more. It gives the wearer a creative approach that fits their own personal style.

With a plethora of chains available here at Powells, there really is something for everyone, no matter what your style! Take this lovely 1970s fancy chain link bracelet above - it's a fun yet sophisticated piece that would undeniably make a great addition to any jewellery collection. While we appreciate that not everyone wears bracelets or necklaces, the chunky trend can be mirrored in other areas too. For example, bold statement rings or large gold hoops will have the same effect and will no doubt have you looking chic and trendy this new year.

Signet Rings

Gone are the days when signet rings were only worn by men of high social status and wealth. With popular television series such as Peaky Blinders that has become influential with their 1920’s wardrobe and accessories, signet rings have seen an increase in interest as a result. With the rise of gender-fluid fashion, signet rings are seamlessly making a comeback and have become a popular accessory among women as well. Rings such as these hold great sentimental value as one can personalise them with an engraving or birthstone and can be worn every day to add a personal flair to your contemporary wardrobe.

Chokers

The choker necklace trend has come a long way from the iconic plastic “tattoo “choker from the 90’s, to making an appearance on the fashion runway last year. Choker necklaces come in a combination of textures, patterns, colours and materials, meaning the possibilities on how to wear them are endless. One of our favourite looks incorporating the trend is the geometric style necklace worn by the talented actress Victoria Yeates at the UK premiere of ‘Fantastic Beasts: The crimes of Grindelwald’.

Art Deco

Statement jewellery pieces dominated the spring/summer 2022 runway shows, displaying an array of bold and unique colours incorporated to pull the look together. If you’re in search of the perfect statement piece and unsure what to consider. We recommend investing in an eye-catching Art Deco jewellery piece. Jewellery from this period ‘between the wars’ represents the ultimate attention to detail in terms of design, materials and craftsmanship.

Every year we see new trends emerge and old trends make their way back, sometimes with a modern twist. This further solidifies that vintage jewellery continues to be timeless and can be worn for many years to come, especially if you invest in the right pieces.
